What the Bible Says about Healthy Living Cookbook Book Review ~ Part One

This wonderful cookbook authored by both Hope Egan and Amy Cataldo continues to inspire our family on healthy eating. Dr. Rex Russell’s quotes What the Bible Says about Healthy Living Cookbook, “the long awaited companion to my book, What the Bible Says about Healthy Living.”  I truly enjoyed reading Dr. Rex Russell’s foreward, his desire to make a change for a healthier life. He was told by doctors at the age of 13 that due to his onset of juvenile diabetes at a young age, he would not have a long life. He was he faced with one health crisis after another. Feeling discouraged, Dr. Rex Russell was led to searching for answers on how he could change his situation. During this desperate time as he started to search for answers, he cried out and said “God, if I am so wonderfully made, why am I so sick? Why didn’t You give us a way to be healthy? And Then, like a feather making a gentle descent, The Question dropped into my mind: ‘Have you read my Instruction Book.”'

And that is when Dr. Russell's journey began as he search on what the bible had to say about healthy living. His resources were the bible, prayer and scientific inquiry. As he started to make changes following the Biblical dietary laws, he noticed some drastic improvements after just one month. Dr. Rex Russell studied and organized what he learned around three principles.
  • Principle 1: Eat only substances God created for food. Avoid what is not designed for food.
  • Principle 2: As much as possible, eat foods as they were created—before they are changed or converted into something humans think might be better.
  • Principle 3: Avoid food addictions. Don’t let any food or drink become your god.
