Book Review: Christian Modesty and THE PUBLIC UNDRESSING OF AMERICA

Why do you dress the way you do? That was one of the questions asked in the book Christian Modesty and THE PUBLIC UNDRESSING OF AMERICA. Although a somewhat short book, seventy seven pages to be exact, author Jeff Pollard wonderfully covers some of the direction of America’s fashion history. He shows us how through the years fashion has shamefully brought us so much nakedness in our nation in a relatively short span of time.

I read this book a few years ago so when I read it once again recently to our two young adult children, I was prepared as to what issues Mr. Pollard would be discussing. Talking with the children about biblical modesty in the past prepared them when reading this book as it helped piece together the ‘why’ our current generation, young and old, have chosen to take a stand on immodest clothing choices, undoubtedly sometimes not knowing why. In the first few chapters, Mr. Pollard defines the biblical definition of modesty. This was an opportunity to show Zachary and Leah how we are to use only the Bible as our measuring stick to what is correct to our Heavenly Creator and Designer of our clothes. Unfortunately I too was a victim of immodest dressing in my past, I’m ashamed to say the thought that I might cause another to stumble didn’t even come to mind. But when it did, my entire view on this perspective totally changed.

Jeff Pollard’s book purposely adds selected history information from fashion books so as not to lead the reader to only his opinion or be accused of inventing a story to make his point. It is obvious from the swimwear fashion history that the industry’s motive was ultimately to reveal what was not meant to be and at the same time to line their pockets. “Swimwear manufacturers knew exactly the course they planned to follow, and it wasn’t the Word of God…”

If you and/or your family is truly seeking to understand biblical modesty and are trying to get back to where YHVH/God intends us to be with regards to this issue, then am recommending this book. There is much information to glean from which cannot be covered in this post and it is worth the read. The information, however true is astonishingly perverse but hopefully will lead you to see how easily mankind has veered of His path of obedience.  Please be sure to read it first before sharing with your children, there may be sections you may choose to not share as Jeff Pollard will show historical roots of the debauchery for what it really was. Unfortunately it continues even in this generation. If we are not to love of the world then why do we follow the world’s standards. Something to think about, How are we adorning His blood bought property?

If you are looking for a copy of this book, Amazon sells inexpensive used copies. If you are in the local Dallas area and wish to borrow my copy send me an email.

I do hope I have given you enough insight to peak your interest to want to read this book!

Or do you not know that your body is the Dwelling Place of the
Set-apart Spirit who is in you, which you have from Elohim/God,
and you are not your own? 1Corinthians 6:19

May YHVH/God continued to be glorified in all that we do.
