Our Homeschool Journey: Homeschooling Through Highschool: Current Readers' List

We are winding down with school for this year. For this summer we are continuing on some subjects and we also plan to set more time aside for other activities and to be able to read more books. Since Zachary and Leah were young, reading has been part of our daily lives. At times I wish I would have given them more time to read or would have chosen better readers. And at times, I wish I would have taken more time to read a loud. Part of being on the homeschooling journey is learning to discern the correct books for each of the children’s needs and to also be able to set unfinished books aside if we feel they do not meet our criteria.

It has been a blessing to see the choices of books both Zachary and Leah seem to gravitate towards. It touches a parent’s heart when our children are able to have self discipline to know what is not appropriate. It is an open door for words of praise to our children. Although I do let them choose a lot of their readers, my husband and I do assign books that we feel will make an impact and equip them in different areas of their lives.

I’m including a combined list of some of the books read these past few years or so for both of the children. Please keep in mind that some of these readers were ‘read aloud’ readers. Yes, although Zachary and Leah are 16 and almost 15 respectively, they still enjoy their mom reading to them. For the most part these books are for grades eight and up. You will also see books listed that we are hoping to read before the end of the Roman calendar year. As you’ll see not all are literature based but cover other subject areas. I am hoping to update these books with time.

  1. Great list, I had to smile because our lists are quite similar, after reading the surviving of grid book I told Bobbin that one is being added to her list! Thank you for sharing!
