Created For Work: Practical Insights for Young Men

I am happy to announce our son Zachary Bruno is now a contributing author for Pebble Crossing. Zachary is 15 and is currently being homeschooled.  He loves his new dog Kaya, or any dog for that matter. He loves the LORD and is continuing to learn what it means to stay in His will and His presence. One of Zachary's strong interests is to compose his solo piano music for his Heavenly Father in Heaven. You can find his writings on his journey towards producing his first CD at Zachary Bruno Music by clicking here.  Be sure to comment on his blog, he would love to hear from you!

Since we homeschool, our family has had opportunities to read many books, some on our own and some together as a family. Last year we read Created for Work: Practical Insights for Young Men by Bob Schultz as an evening devotional. Zachary then reread this book on his own earlier this year. The following is a book review of Zachary's insights and what he is learning to apply in his own life. If you haven't shared this book with your family, I would highly recommend it, not only for boys but for everyone in the family. We were blessed by his teachings.  We are now looking forward to another one of Mr. Bob Schultz' books entitled Boyhood and Beyond.

Created for Work: Practical Insights for Young Men
Created for Work by Bob Schultz is one of the most practical, bible-inspired books that I've read so far. Work is a topic many take for granted; it shapes all of what we do and how we go about doing it. While the world tries very hard to get out of working hard at a task, we as believers need to conquer that laziness. Many short topical chapters are filled with Schultz's own experiences and examples which prove the Bible's words about working for Yahweh's glory. It is apparent that, by using his own experiences to teach others, Schultz wrote the book to illustrates that Yah created everyone to work cheerfully for Him.

As I read, I noted that the Bible backed every point he made in the book. Not only that, but most of the examples were Schultz's life experiences which proved countless scripture references true. I appreciated the lessons that he shared from his own life and how they can apply to me today. It undoubtedly refined my view on the subject because of the ample evidence from Yahweh's word.

Created for Work has also had a profound impact on my life. Learning to work with the right attitude is crucial in order to do the best that Yah made me to do; to rely on Him for emotional strength and perseverance. Since we have been working on our yard lately, I know Yahweh used the problems I encountered to teach me biblical concepts explained in Schultz's book. He seems to give a new light and new direction on the subject. Definitely inspiring.

Bob Schultz's book, Created for Work is a must-read because of its practicality and biblical basis. Though many take the topic of work for granted, this book will tell you a lot, if not all you need to know to have a Godly work ethic. I am truly pleased with the character-building value of this book. May you be blessed by it also.

  1. Zachary, this is a very well written review...and I teach writing, so I may know a little about it. I would like to suggest a change to the author's word 'Created,' and change it to 'Suited.' We were *created* to be in communion with God. It was only through disobedience that we were sent out into the world to 'work.' Our first purpose is communion...with God and then with man.

  2. Thank you!

Hmm, interesting point. Since we were made in His image, (Genesis 1:26,27) and God created everything in 6 days (worked at a diligent schedule) so should we be diligent. I have no doubt that Adam and Eve tended the garden which God placed them in, thus demonstrating that of work. God loves us and wants us to have a relationship with Him--that's the main thing though. Great point! =)

    God bless,
    -Zachary
